Our activities, our research, our laboratory.

IMAGE OF THE MONTH

Our research is highly multidisciplinary: daily we look into cell viability, material stiffness, or bacterial biofilm formation. As a result, we produce a lot of data, a huge part of which are images! We decided to share them with you, and every month we pick the most beautiful one!

Behold the building blocks of cartilage in action! In this vibrant image, blue marks cell nuclei, green shows the cytoskeleton, and red reveals newly formed collagen type II—the key ingredient for healthy cartilage. This snapshot, captured by our postdoctoral researcher Alessandro Scalia, showcases how perfusion (fluid flow) gives cells a boost in forming cartilage. Alessandro’s work focuses on developing new materials for cartilage regeneration, bringing us closer to better treatments for joint repair!
