PhD Positions in Advanced Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine
Informal call open – Express your interest by 31.07.2025
The INNOVATION Lab at the University of Eastern Piedmont (UPO) is recruiting motivated PhD students to join INJECTHEAL, a major European innovation project on the development of a Multifunctional Self-Healing Injectable Hydrogel for Chronic Wound Healing and Tissue Regeneration.
INJECTHEAL is funded under the HORIZON Innovation Actions programme and managed by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency. The project brings together leading European institutions with a budget of over €8 million and a 36-month duration.
Our team is based at CAAD – Interdepartmental Center of Excellence for Translational Research on Autoimmune and Allergic Diseases in Novara, Italy, a flagship research hub of the Piedmont Region.
Within INJECTHEAL, we are responsible for the in-vitro and ex-vivo biological evaluation of hydrogel candidates, providing critical feedback to guide the optimization of material formulations.
Successful candidates will work on:
- Advanced biological evaluation of hydrogel regenerative, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties.
- In-vitro testing using 2D and 3D human-derived skin models, including models exposed to real wound exudates.
- Ex-vivo assessments simulating chronic wound conditions to bridge to clinical application.
Profiles sought
We invite expressions of interest from candidates with backgrounds in:
- Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Tissue Engineering, Biomaterials Science, or related fields.
- Skills in cell culture, 3D tissue models, wound healing assays, biomaterials characterization, microscopy (confocal/SEM), or molecular biology are considered advantageous.
IMPORTANT: This call is for expressions of interest only, not a formal application. If interested, please send your signed CV (PDF) and a short motivation message indicating which profile you are applying for to lia.rimondini@med.uniupo.it, elham.sharifikolouei@uniupo.it, and andrea.cochis@med.uniupo.it
